If you missed it, here’s why I’m writing A Year of Delights
A Year of Delights Day 4 – This Is How We Greet The Day
There’s nothing that makes me feel better than starting my day with movement. Especially outside. The sun, the fresh air, the feeling of moving my body – it makes me feel unstoppable!
I call it “filling up my resilience stores for the day” because I always find I can tackle the day with more positivity, resilience, and problem solving.
My preferred way to fill up those stores is through an outdoors walk, but I’ve also found great benefit in yoga.
Yoga is not an activity that comes easily to me. I resists movements that are slower, that force me to connect deeply with my body, and quiet the mind. I also know that means I need it.
So every once in awhile, I take my mat outside and turn on a 20 minute flow.
20 minutes of connecting my feet to the earth.
20 minutes of feeling deeply into the tight, achy bits. The bits of me that aren’t used to be being stretched or moved.
20 minutes of feeling the sun on my body. Maybe I was even brave enough to take off my shirt and feel even more of that heavenly, life giving sun.
20 minutes of finding and losing my balance and finding it again.
I start those 20 minutes with a racing mind and I end those 20 minutes with more space in my body and in my head.
A sigh of relief that it’s done and I don’t need to do any more yoga and a sigh of relief that I’ve found my way home to me.
Today’s instructor kept saying, “this is how we start the morning”. Yes indeed it is. And I will remind myself of this feeling of delight when inevitably tomorrow I resist doing it yet again.
