DIY Valentine’s gift ideas are my favorite. They are so sweet and thoughtful and always more memorable to me than store bought gifts. Over the years, I’ve made Bassam and also various members of my family tons of DIY Valentine’s gifts. Here are a few ideas that I shared recently on our Instagram Stories. I wish I could take photos of the ones I made to share with you, but I don’t currently have access to them in our home. Hopefully these ideas will be helpful for you and inspire you to create your own DIY Valentine’s gifts.

1 | Scrapbooks
Scrapbooks are the quintessential DIY gift. There are so many variations of this gift idea, that you could do a different kind of scrapbook every year! Here are a few of my favorite types:
- Story of Us: create a book of your story from start to present. Include photos, any mementos you have saved, scrapbooking stickers, cardstock, etc. I like using a notebook like this and decorating the cover myself. It’s less expensive than traditional scrapbooks and the pages hold up nicely to all the things I fill them with
- Reasons Why I Love You: purchase a small scrapbook (like this one) and fill each page with a reason why you love your loved one. Decorate the page with stickers, markers, etc
- Theme: pick one specific theme, like all the vacations you’ve done together, the past year, etc
- Bucket List: create a scrapbook of all the things you wish to do with your loved one
- Journal: purchase a beautiful journal and every day write a journal entry to your loved one. Gift it to them once you fill it up
- Quotes: fill a notebook with your favorite quotes that remind you of the recipient. I’ve made my mom one of these full of inspirational quotes when she was diagnosed with ALS
- Prompt: purchase a small book and write a prompt for yourself to answer and decorate on each page. Examples include:
- My favorite date with you
- My favorite memory with you
- The moment I knew I loved you

2 | Box of Stars
Grab some wooden or foam stars and a pretty box or jar. Write on every star a reason why you love the person. On the box or jar, write/paint/paste a pretty paper stating “if I had a star for every reason why I loved you, I’d run out of stars”. If you do a wooden box, paint or decorate the box.

2 | Open when envelopes
Get a pretty box and fill with “open when” envelopes.
- Open when you need a laugh: a few jokes. A funny picture of us
- Open when you are tired: a gift card to his favorite coffee shop. Some chocolate. Motivational quotes
- Open when you’re bored: a Sudoku book. A crossword puzzle about us that I made. A few jokes. My phone number
- Open when you miss me: a few pictures of us. A short and sweet card. A few lipstick kisses. A gift card for a date night at our favorite restaurant
- Open when you’re mad at me: a letter on how much I love him
- Open when I’m mad at you: a list of ways to cheer me up
- Open the day you propose: a letter to Bassam encouraging him not to be nervous and describing how I feel about him. A picture of us. Lipstick kisses on little slips of paper cut into hearts

Find a pretty muffin tin, fill with cute cupcake liners, and place a wooden heart in each spot with a nice quality about that person. Attach a recipe card that says, “the ingredients that make (person’s name) so special”.

5 | Calendar
This was a last minute DIY valentine’s gift I made Bassam one year and I love how it came out. Grab a wall calendar or create one online. If you’re in a time crunch like I was, CVS and Walgreens both offer customizable same day pick up calendars. You make it online and can pick it up in store within hours. If you’re using a printed calendar, you can customize the photos for each month with scrapbooking supplies or leave it as is. Either way include:
- Cute little messages on random days
- All important dates for your relationship
- Random funny dates for your relationship
- A monthly date that you’ve preplanned (this is the BEST part of the gift and what will make the gift keep on giving! If you need date ideas, we’ve shared a ton)
- If you’re making it online, you can even add customized photos to each month and also on various dates
6 | Mini frames
I love getting mini frames or mini chalkboard easels and writing custom quote for the person I’m gifting it to. I usually hide it somewhere that will surprise them, like by a bedside table. It’s always a fun little surprise!
