As I’ve gotten older, I no longer have patience for shoes that hurt my feet. I’ll do it sometimes if the occasion calls for it, but most of the time I choose comfort. I especially need comfortable and cute shoes for travel. If my feet are not comfortable, I will not have as much fun as I could have and I will not have the patience to explore and walk for hours on end. I also never know where the day will take us when we are traveling, so I need to wear shoes I can do anything in. Overall, my style can be classified as comfortable but cute. It’s important to me to look good when I travel. It’s also important to me to be able to get ready very quickly and be very comfortable. When I’m shopping for clothes and shoes, I look for options that don’t sacrifice style or comfort. A lot people tell me it’s not possible to have both, but I’ve always found that it is. {I have a whole post on travel beauty hacks for the lazy girl here}
Comfortable and Cute Shoes for Travel

Some tips with comfortable but cute travel shoes:
- Try shopping the “comfort” shoes section of Nordstrom. Comfort brands have really upped their game over the past couple of years and are making some really cute shoes
- I usually take 1 black pair and 1 beige pair so that they will work with any outfit. Sandals in the summer, booties in spring/fall, and boots in the winter
- Consider taking a pair of booties to wear out at night. I’ve found a few pairs that can even work with very dressy outfits and are much, much more comfortable than heels
- Understand the culture of where you are going. Many places I’ve traveled to it has been completely acceptable to wear flats or booties out at night. These are usually cities with more of a walking culture
- Not all flats are created equal. Look for stability and cushion. Both of these things will save your feet when you’re on them for hours on end. I find hard and thin sandals to be just as uncomfortable as heels after a long day
Sandals
When we traveled to Colombia, I took way too many shoes. I ended up only wearing one pair of beige flats and one pair of black flats. Both were SO comfortable through long days and nights of walking and dancing. My exact pairs are out of stock, but I’ve linked up similars for you. The ones pictured above are my newest purchases. I think they are both cute and they are both SO comfortable. I was so excited to wear them on our France trip that got cancelled. These have just the teeniest heel, super cute cut outs, and feel like you’re walking in a cloud. My new favorites! I’ve been wearing them nonstop since they came in.

Flats
Sometimes flats look a bit more polished than sandals, especially with jeans. These are my go-to favorites that I wear all the time, whether traveling or working. I have them in both beige and black. The bow is so cute and they are super versatile. They come in a variety of colors seasonally, but the black and beige are available year-around. They are made of special technology to be light weight, flexible, supportive, and have responsive cushioning. You may want to break these in before your trip just in case.

Booties
I love booties because they can be dressed up or down and there are so many comfortable options. I always take one pair along with me when I travel and they are so versatile for both day and night. This pair is especially comfortable. I wore it all over the cobblestones of France and was still super comfortable, even when the ground was very uneven or uphill. If they are sold out, which they often are, these are my second favorite. They aren’t as cute, but still cute and very comfortable, plus waterproof!

Boots
Boots are NOT worth it to me to not be comfortable in, especially since there are so many cute and comfortable options out there. I stole this pair from my mom and wore it for YEARS. I’m talking like 10 years. It served me so well before I finally had to buy a new pair. {Pro packing tip: Wear your boots during the flight or car ride to save much needed luggage space. Also, try to pick just one color, black or brown, to take and make sure it matches all your outfits}

Wedges/Heels
Sometimes there’s no way around it and you need a pair of heels. I find wedges to be the most comfortable heels as they don’t put a lot of pressure on the front of your foot or your toes. I haven’t found any amazingly cute heels that are still comfortable after HOURS of walking or dancing, but here are some relatively cute options that are very comfortable. My absolute favorite pair (pictured above) is really comfortable and very cute, but it’s not comfortable enough to walk all day in (at least not for me).

Thank you so much for this post! I have such a hard time finding shoes that I like / are comfortable…. Forget about finding good travel shoes! My problem might be that I always shop at discount places like DSW. It’s probably time I up my budget and look at Nordstrom where I can get some shoes that are high quality and will actually last. I love the boots you recommended that were your mom’s… and they have them in WIDE! Its so hard for me to find shoes that fit my feet shape. Anyhow, thanks again for the post! I might become your twinsie soon with the same footwear! lol

We are totally going to be twinsies because my feet are wide so I’m always looking for that too!! It’s Soo worth it to up your budget for good quality shoes because they last so much longer and can prevent back, knee, etc issues. I’m so happy this post was helpful for you!

I ompletely agree with you! Fashion used to trump comfort for me but as I get older and I travel so much more, comfort is the key! For summer i love my Birkenstocks. For winter I have my Sorel fashion snow boots and also my leathers knee high boots. I’m surprised how comfortable my boots are! And luckily now they have fashion sneakers which are super comfy! Can’t live without them anymore.

Same! I used to pretend the most uncomfortable shoes were uncomfortable and ignore my crying feet, but I just can’t do it anymore! I’ve been wanting to try Sorels for winter! We don’t live in a very cold climate or travel to very cold, but we might do an Iceland winter road trip so I’ll need them! I’m so glad more shoe brands are bringing style to their comfort shoes.

So stylish! I havent actually traveled to cold countries so I’m used to just wearing flipflops around Southeast Asia. LOL Which is kinda bad for my feet I guess because not only do I get a nasty sunburn in the shape of your flipflops but I also tend to form calluses in my heel area. I guess I have to consider other types of shoes too from time to time. 😅

I have a high arch so for me flip flops are not comfortable! I notice I’ll get calf and ankle pain if I walk around in them all day. I think maybe that’s why I’m so picky with my footwear!
