Today I’m so excited to share with you Zayn’s shooting star nursery! His room was always our favorite room in the house, it’s so pretty, has amazing views, and gets the best light. Now that it’s Zayn’s nursery it’s also the most special room in the house.
I’ve always spent so much time in Zayn’s room, whether it’s stretching, exercising, or journaling. It’s a space that just brought me so much joy and made me feel so relaxed, even when it was just an empty room. Now that it’s set up with our shooting star nursery theme, I find it to be an especially relaxing space. The colors are so peaceful and soothing.
I had such a hard time picking a nursery theme for Zayn. From ocean to woodland bunny, I went back and forth between many ideas and nothing felt right. Eventually I thought it would be nice if the theme was somehow inspired by my mom and then the idea came super easily.
Shooting star nursery theme – inspired by a quote my mom always used to say to us. “Reach for the moon. If you miss, you’ll land among the stars”. My mom truly believed that we could accomplish anything we set our minds to and made sure to tell us that all the time. Thank to her I have unwavering confidence that I can do what I set my mind to if I try hard enough. I want Zayn to feel that way. To know that he can do hard things. He can do things when others tell him he can’t. And if it doesn’t quite work out the exact way he wanted it to, it’s still a win. He still got further than not trying at all.
I centered the whole room around a wooden sign I had made with my mom’s quote. The real version of the quote is worded a little differently, but I wanted to have it done the exact way my mom used to say it. The rest of the room has small star details throughout. I didn’t want the room to be overly cluttered or cheese, so we kept it all really simple. Just a few little decorations to really drive the theme.
The dresser, crib, and rocking chair were a gift from my dad. We splurged a bit on these items because he was so excited to set up a room for his first grandchild and we are planning to use them for all our future kids.
It was important to us to choose Greenguard Gold Certified items. This means that they are made from sustainably sourced, chemical-free materials. These products are screened for more than 10,000 chemicals that are known to pollute the air in your home. It’s starting to become easier to find Greenguard Gold Certified products. Here are a few stores I found: WayFair, Pottery Barn Kids, Restoration Hardware Baby, and Sprout Kids.
Since we’ll be using the same base furniture for all our future kids, we chose gender neutral and timeless pieces that can work with any theme. We’ll make it special and unique by switching out little details for each child. I have more themes in mind already, all of which are a nod to my mom.
The room isn’t fully complete. There are still so many little details to complete like putting up photos, styling the shelves and built ins, and adding more special little details. I decided to share now because if I waited until it was completely done, I’d probably never share! Here’s how the room is looking so far.

It was really important to me to have a little reading nook in Zayn’s room. I know it’ll be awhile until he uses it, but my pregnancy nesting hormones felt the room wouldn’t be complete without it. We bought these plain white floating shelves and painted them ourselves. I loved the inspo of these shelves, but I felt they were not worth the price. It was surprisingly hard to find ones at a decent price and I had to do a lot of searching to find these. Painting them was a fun project and I really triggered Bassam’s attention to detail with my lack of detail orientness, haha. We also added a lower bookcase because I wanted to have a place where Zayn could easily reach the books himself.
We had such a hard time picking a rug and I love the one we ended up choosing. It gives the room such a relaxing vibe. I also loved this star circle rug and this star tassel rug, but we decided not to carry the star theme in the rug so it could easily be be repurposed anywhere in the house.
It’s going to take me awhile to put up photos around the closet and organize the built ins, but I know I’ll get around it some time!
I’m obsessed with these bunnies fishing for stars wall decals. They are just so sweet and the decals are really easy to put on and take off. The designer is a true artist, the decals are so incredibly beautiful. The photos don’t do them justice.
The curtains took us a long time because we had a very specific look we were going for and we also wanted to do it on a budget. They finally came out great, but it took a lot of trial and error, repeated store visits and product returns, and help from a good friend.
We hope you enjoyed this peek into Zayn’s shooting star nursery. You might also like this post on baby registry must haves.
