Relationship Challenge Week 1 – Alignment

Welcome to week 1 of the 6 week relationship challenge! We’re so happy that you’re here and making this commitment to your relationship! We really hope you’ll see some positive results at the end of the 6 weeks.

Challenge #1 – Alignment

We feel alignment is very important in a relationship. This involves getting on the same page about your goals, visions, and dreams for the future- both your individual ones and your relationship ones.

Meshing two very different people into one life together can often lead to conflict. It’s okay to want different things than your partner, to have different desires, or to be working on different goals. The problem is when we don’t understand what our partner wants, why they want it, or don’t support their goals.

Not talking about these things in advance and getting on the same page, or getting in alignment, can lead to dissatisfaction and disappointment.

Here’s our challenge to you this week. Choose an activity that will help you get in alignment with your partner. We’ve suggested a few options, but feel free to make this your own and do whatever works for your twosome.

Idea 1: Strategy Planning Meeting

New Year Planning Meeting
New Year Planning Meeting

We love to start off our year with a strategy planning meeting. We set aside a full day or half day to reflect on the past year- what went well and what didn’t go so well. Then we dream about what we’d like this year to look like. Next we turn those dreams into goals and break them down into action steps to meet those goals. Finally we schedule the action steps into our calendar.

No matter what time of year you’re doing this challenge, it’s always a good time to plan! So don’t worry if you’re doing this during a random time of the year, just plan out the rest of the year!

It always brings up really great discussions for us and helps us start off the year in alignment with each other. Even if we don’t have all the same goals, it’s really nice to understand each other’s vision for the year and be able to support each other in meeting that vision.

If you’d like to choose this option, we have a step-by-step guide as well as a free printable for you to use. Check out our strategy planning meeting post here.

Idea 2: Plan out a smaller chunk of time

If the thought of planning out a full year feels way too overwhelming, you could also get the same benefits by planning out the next quarter or the next month. Follow the same process as above, but just focus on a smaller amount of time. Our strategy planning meeting post and printable may still be helpful for you.

Idea 3: Work on a goal together

A great benefit to getting in alignment is working together as a team. We often find that when life throws challenges at us we can sometimes have a hard time adopting an “us vs the challenge” mentality and can sometimes let the challenge divide us. Working together as a team to accomplish a common goal helps get you in that “us vs the challenge” mindset and is great practice for when life does throw challenges at you.

Choose a goal that both of you are interested in. Break it down into actionable steps and then schedule time to work on those steps together. If you have different working styles, like we do, you may find this challenging. The point here is to figure out how to utilize both of your strengths and focus on that rather than on your differences. Make sure you have a reward set up for when you achieve your goal together.

We’d love to hear which option you choose and how it goes for you!

Let us know if you have questions or if we can help at all.

We hope you have a great time getting into alignment with each other!
